Saturday Morning Sports with Dave Long
Sports columnist, radio/TV broadcasters and humorist who’s unique blend of insight and humor has been described as Bill James meets Mad Magazine. Those traits are seen and heard regularly around New Hampshire in his weekly LongShots column in the Hippo Press, as host of the sports call-in program Dave Long and Company on all-sports WGAM radio and through Red Sox/Patriots Notebook reports syndicated to radio stations in New Hampshire.
A commentator/color analyst for over 15 years on news/sports programs as well as college football and basketball game broadcasts on WMUR-TV, Fox Sports Net and New England Sports Network. He’s also was a member of the team that opened the nationally renown Ted Williams National Hitters Hall of Fame in Hernando, Florida, as well as producer/essayist for the highly rated Celtic Magazine program on Sports Channel-NE and later Fox Sports Net.
A respected figure in New Hampshire sports circles for many years beginning with a Hall of Fame basketball career at Plymouth State University where he graduated as its all-time leading scoring and in assists. The following year at 23 he took the reins at PSU to become possibly the youngest head coach in college basketball history and later he was an assistant at Southern New Hampshire University where he played an instrumental early role in its ascension as a national power among Division II basketball programs in the country. He left coaching after that to pursue a career in the media side of sports where he has been active since, while periodically dabbling in volunteer projects with the sports end of the Jimmy Fund and the New England Sports Museum
