The 2011 Boston Red Sox were suppose to be an almost gimme to get into the World Series. With a $184 Million Dollar Payroll and a huge collection of talent along with one of the games most respected managers, why would that be too much to expect out of this ball club? Well it was unfortunately and months after their historic collapse in September, the 2012 Boston Red Sox seem to have changed nothing but their manager position. In the eyes of many and including myself, this team is the most heartless and least competitive group I have ever seen. Old time fans who have been through the worst years imaginable in Red Sox history agree with those who believe this description of the club. No matter how many ways you try to slice it; they just don’t give a care in the world.
Many would, of course, blame the manager and the players for the sicking troubles of the Boston Red Sox. Well two problems with that, Bobby Valentine hasn’t been manager long enough to throw under the bus and the Red Sox players only problem is finding the passion and heart t as a team to play meaningful baseball again. Guys like Pedoria and Lester get what is going on and are doing all they can to show the fans they can change. In the series with Toronto, so far, there have been signs of players showing the heart we are used to seeing out of our teams. The number one problem to me is the ownership of the team. Their prime concern, and most likely only concern, is selling merchandise to fans and media outlets; not winning games.
John Henry can play this over dramatic caring type all he wants when he infamously walked into a Boston Sports Radio show a few months ago and told off all those people who were calling him out on how he has handled the team the last few years, but I am not buying that garbage. Those people were dead on to who John Henry is and has always been about. At the end of the day, John Henry only cares about making a profit one way or another. He does not care about winning or the overall status of the baseball club which has been in the lives of many people for a century. Larry Lucchino is not better than his boss. Ben Cherington may be titled as the GM of the Sox, but anyone who pays attention to the team on and off the field knows the snake that is Lucchino controls what happens for his personal satisfaction. He loves to have the power and is no better to any other power craving know-it-all. The Sox have many problems and I do not expect much out of them this season, until those problems that exist in management, ownership and all other high offices within the franchise are resolved for good at all costs. We cover and pay attention to the team not the owners.
